Ryan Summers – “Chasm”

/

The opening track on Ryan Summers‘ new album Undo Influence, “Chasm” is enjoyably representative of the project’s eclectic stylistic reach and atmospheric capabilities. A chugging, bluesy guitar tone builds alongside escalating percussion, reminding a bit of Prefab Sprout’s “Jesse James Bolero.” Dark synth-pop cut “The Curious Story of Brad Halsey” follows, immersing listeners in a sound more akin to Depeche Mode. It’s apparent early on that Undo Influence is an intriguing listen, full of character. The pulsing electro-rock energy of “Holy Criminal” is also notable, exuding a pulsing infectiousness fit for darkly-lit, idiosyncratic dance floors.
