The Recreationalists – “Sci-Fi Girl”

/

“Sci-Fi Girl” comes via Canadian project The Recreationalists. The track struts an intriguing sound from the get-go; sporadic bass pushes and eerie vocals guide into a psych-friendly “and I ask you then,” lead-in, adorned with spacey synths and backing guitars. The hook around 01:30 exudes a free-flowing rock suaveness, fondly reminiscent of Supergrass. The playful keys and bouncy guitar in the ensuing bridge plays infectiously. The track’s final minute is especially rewarding, combining anthemic vocal pushes, escalating guitar twinges, and spacey synth flourishes, fondly recalling MGMT’s hooky sound.

Per the band, the track relays “the story of a unassuming alien girl that one day gets pushed to the limit by the cruelty of her attackers. They soon find out she is not to be messed with. Some things you choose to do can not be undone!”

“Sci-Fi Girl” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2021’ Spotify playlist.
