Matt Saxton – “It’s Only Now That I Know”

/

The title track from Matt Saxton‘s upcoming album, “It’s Only Now That I Know” crafts a stirring sound led by trickling piano and twangy guitars. Acoustic guitars and piano complement an intimate vocal lead to start, alongside lyrical reflections of youth. The one-minute mark finds warm guitar twangs intertwining, thereafter culminating in a rock-friendly fervency that drives the track’s second-half brilliance. The East Sussex-based artist cites as Neil Young and The Jayhawks as influences; “It’s Only Now That I Know” captures the timeless, emotive appeal of those artists, with an original spin.

“At some point in our lives we look back at the past and hopefully recognize the mistakes and the successes,” Saxton says about the track. “It is about finding some kind of wisdom and hindsight as we grow older.”

The track follows up the previously featured “Animal.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2022’ Spotify playlist.
