Lapels – “The Life and Times”

/

Derby-based band Lapels impress on their third single, “The Life and Times,” delivering a melodic sound with a nostalgic Brit-pop emotion. Jangling acoustics and passionate vocals entrance immediately, strutting an Oasis-like charm. The “give yourself another fighting chance,” lead-in to the electric guitar addition plays with replay-inducing charm; the added rhythm section and escalating vocals contrast enjoyably from the initial verses’ laid-back charm.

“I heard it’s bad for your health, you’ve gotta get up and help yourself,” the organ-laden chorus resonates. Yet another hook emerges upon the ensuing organ-based ferocity and guitar distortion, here reminding fondly of Ocean Colour Scene. “The Life and Times” showcases memorable songwriting and solid production from Lapels.
