Alter – “Onset”

/

“Onset” is a thoroughly intoxicating electronic single from Alter, the Manchester-born and Bristol-based project of George Warren, AKA Klens. Touting an atmospheric house sound, “Onset” builds with a wintry elegance, culminating in a brisker second half with spacey synth ascensions and thumping percussive allure.

Recorded at the beginning of lockdown, in April 2020, “Onset” is influenced by that particular period of isolation, and the state of introspection it brought upon many. Per Alter, the track “showcases a the desire to escape to more optimistic state.” The hazy sonic textures emerge like a sunrise, with trickling percussive tones and sporadic synth-laden warmness culminating in a strong melodic resonance. The atmospheric, hypnotic engrossment throughout the track reminds aesthetically of The Field.

Alter is also the co-owner of independent record label Music Appreciation Club.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Electronic.
