Rain Carnation – “Fearless”

///

Concocting a gorgeously nocturnal soundscape with gushing synth envelopment and heavy rhythmic pulsations, “Fearless” is a fantastic track from Pittsburgh-based artist Rain Carnation.

Grimy guitars drive into a throbbing bass accompaniment, giving way to the emergence of starry-eyed synth beauty. The fierce vocal work reminds fondly of Placebo’s Brian Molko, exuding a tortured sense of melancholy within the wholly atmospheric mix. The second synth-laden drop, just prior to the one-minute turn, builds with similar captivation; an ensuing rise satiates in its build from synth trickles and bass-y resonance.

One of the most stylistically striking tracks I’ve heard this year, Rain Carnation’s “Fearless” wows with its atmospheric and melodic vigor throughout.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in Best Tracks of 2022.
