Rain Carnation – “Chemical Song”

//

Pounding guitar pulses and glitzy synths invigorate throughout “Chemical Song,” the latest success from Rain Carnation. The enigmatic project’s stopped us in our tracks with the singles “Fearless” and “Liar,” exuding a masterful dark-pop prowess. “Chemical Song” continues that success, with even more dynamic captivation.

Described as a “conceptual essay on dark temptations,” “Chemical Song” refers to dependence and addiction throughout its lyrics. “My addiction is an affliction,” they admit. “I have so much to tell you,” continues into gripping distorted guitars and icy-cold synth tones. The serene shift at 01:30 is wholly engrossing, showcasing the project’s dynamic atmospheric hold, from venomous and industrial to scenic and dreamy.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
