Personality Contest – “Would You Like to Know”

Austin-based band Personality Contest impress with the soaring rocker “Would You Like to Know.” Initial laments about “living life upside down,” excel into an elongated croon amidst pulsing guitars, emitting a hooky power-pop allure reminiscent of Matthew Sweet. A lush, psych-friendly bridge — “would you like to know?” — builds with similar captivation into the gripping guitar-based energy, exuding a dose of ’90s alt-rock nostalgia amidst the contemporary psychedelic charms.

Per the band, the track “was written about living in modern times and the melancholy accompanying a future that has failed to live up to expectations. The song tries to capture the feeling of searching for that certain something that can help make sense of a tumultuous world.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
