LIAD – “History”

/

On the chillingly beautiful track “History,” Tel Aviv-based artist LIAD crafts a moving sound that escalates gradually as vocal passion, keys, and rhythms expand with tactful captivation. The track precedes the artist’s upcoming album, which he describes as “a concept album about my own struggle with anxiety.” As a a Clinical Psychologist (Ph.D.), LIAD shows a unique perspective in being a therapist who expresses his own anxieties in musical form. “It may be unorthodox for a psychologist to go up front – but the times are changing, and so are we,” the artist says.

“History” unfolds with a patient, gently atmospheric pulse. Smooth keys and distorted percussive hints grow gradually in effervescence as a submerged vocal presence appears, escalating beautifully in pitch as the first minute completes. The first half is wholly fit for rumination, with further vigor upon the chilly textural tones and spacey synth additions past the second minute. A more involved vocal presence leads a stirring conclusion, finalizing “History” is a track that resonates.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.
