Slow Cinema – “Sizzler”

/

“Sizzler” flaunts a rock-forward mystique throughout, courtesy of Slow Cinema, a band from Newcastle, Australia. Drawing from prior decades — from the ferocity of ’90s alt-rock to the rhythmic suaveness of ’70s artists — the band call “Sizzler” their “heaviest song to date.”

Pulsing guitars and understated vocals lead to the raucous, invigorating “I’m on a mission,” proclamation. “I’ll just sit inside, I’ll wait, yeah I’ll hide,” the suave vocals continue during the enamoring chorus, showing shades of early Arctic Monkeys (and touting another reference point: “00s indie faves.”) The guitar-driven momentum and rising vocals — swelling from halted composure to ardent escalation — make for an exciting sound from start to finish.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2023’ Spotify playlist.
