A soulful production with warming brass additions and suave guitar work, “Make Me Feel” is a resonating new track from The Turnouts, a band based in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The band met at the dorms of San Francisco State University, and released their self-titled debut album in 2019. A live EP followed in 2021. The Turnouts are presently putting out singles ahead of their upcoming second full-length, and “Make Me Feel” has me firmly anticipating that release.
Embracing San Francisco neo-soul amidst the band’s rock stylings, “Make Me Feel” is full of delicately emotive moments and swelling passion alike. The introduction, with its balmy guitar twangs and debonair vocals, finds sweltering accompaniment from the atmospheric brass tones rounding the one-minute mark. “Baby, you make me feel like I can breathe underwater,” the vocals exult during the impassioned rise, falling seamlessly back into the subdued soul stylings of the verses thereafter. “Make Me Feel” is a versatile, soulful success from The Turnouts.
