Bedon – “Waking Up Slow”

//

With the diversely compelling “Waking Up Slow,” Nashville-based singer/songwriter Bedon reveals the opening track on his forthcoming second LP, Daylight. “Waking Up Slow” possesses the characteristics of an ideal rock/pop opener, in showcasing the artist’s dynamic tonal reach within an accessibly bright melodic soundscape.

A “wake up,” vocal invitation finds sporadic accompaniment in the quaint acoustics, with percussion and bass driving into a more rock-ready conciseness past the first minute. The title-touting hook plays as an energized refrain as the guitars build alongside chirpy horns, with higher-pitched vocals achieving the signaled anthemic rise. “Look at me crying now,” the vocals let out during a solemn bridge, prior to engaging in a riveting finale with rousing guitars and brass propelling with ardent captivation. “Waking Up Slow” impresses with its vibrant songwriting and catching tonal shifts.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2023’ Spotify playlist.
