Missioner – “Waste Some Time” + “Far Away”

/

Ottawa-based rockers Missioner show their songwriting strengths on two new tracks, touting an ardent sound with satiating builds. “Waste Some Time” stirs with its contrast between the contemplative verses and invigorating rise. “Take me to a place where no one knows,” the vocals let out with hazy engrossment alongside patient guitar twangs. The chorus lifts off powerfully. “Can you stay awhile, and waste some time?” the vocals exult here. “I won’t do too well on my own.” The track thoroughly captivates.

“Far Away” is another strong showing from the band, with another standout title-touting hook — this one touting a more melancholic yearning with ’90s alt-rock nostalgia. I’m reminded of Last Dinosaurs and their tendency for chirpy guitar-laden hooks and soaring vocals.

Missioner note that these tracks were written “at a tough time in their lives that quickly led to the dissolution of the band,” — seeing the light of day in 2023, six years after being written. I’m looking forward to hopefully hearing more.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2023’ Spotify playlist.
