Bridge Dog – “Counterweight”

/

“Counterweight” struts a captivating rock sound steeped in shoegaze and dream-pop inspiration, revealing the textured sound of Bridge Dog, an Australian act from Eora (Sydney). Thematically “about the feeling of being submerged,” “Counterweight” rides on fuzzy guitar envelopment and serene vocal charm — tonally resembling Kero Kero Bonito’s more distortion-friendly successes.

“I see you in my sleep, I don’t know what it means,” the vocals let out during a particularly catching shift, maintaining the underlying shoegaze-y guitar textures as the vocal melody impresses in its versatility. A soaring guitar line, more akin to alt-rock nostalgia, surrounds the subsequent section, prior to a final, satiating vocal build into the riveting conclusion.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
