The Histrionics – “You Are The Ugliest Part Of My Body”

/

Louisville-based band The Histrionics unveil a darkly enveloping rock sound throughout “You Are The Ugliest Part Of My Body,” a track from their newly released album of the same name. A heavy dose of guitar distortion quickly complements a consuming, morose vocal lead. Haunting strings weave in with stylistic savvy past the second minute, sending chills alongside the creeping guitar jangles, and reminding of The Chameleons UK’s moody post-punk sound with a touch of modern angst.

The “around your neck,” sequence compels beforehand, growing climactically into the the aforementioned highlight. Blistering guitar work retakes the mix into the fifth minute, invigorating with its wailing lead alongside the steady post-punk rhythm guitar underlying. “You Are The Ugliest Part Of My Body” is exemplary of the band’s deliciously menacing rock sound.

Stream the rest of the album below, described as “a roller-coaster body horror concept album about codependency.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.
