Train Conductor – “Arroyo Butterfly”

An engrossing psych-rocker about moving on from death, “Arroyo Butterfly” is a hypnotic success from Albuquerque-based project Train Conductor, fronted by Will Byrne and featuring a variety of talented musicians. The track comes via their forthcoming album, Geodesic.

The “spread your wings and glide away,” multi-layered vocals craft an immersive and spacious sound, with steadier guitar-laden cuts adding a brisker energy past the first minute. A buzzing guitar-driven resonance complements hazy vocal engagement, yearning for a place of tranquility within the bustles of daily life. The meditative swell of the initial sound, along with the more amped-up middle, concocts a thoroughly captivating sound.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Psychedelic Rock.
