Max Bien Kahn – “List”

/

Engaging with its breezy guitar affections and warming vocal reassurances, “List” is a new single from Max Bien Kahn. Kahn describes the effort as “about getting through your day one little task at a time. It’s also about falling in love and facing your own mortality.”

Plucky guitars and a slight backing organ complement a shrugging vocal presence, reflecting the role of a list — “I can add anything I want,” — as a therapeutic and efficient method to prevent from feeling overwhelmed. “Are you impressed by my list?” he sings slyly, rising into a series of multi-vocal layering that plays with approachable charm: “you can add anything you want.” The ensuing “when I cross it off,” wholly satiates, playing aptly in referencing the upcoming album’s namesake.

The track comes via the upcoming album When I Cross it Off, releasing on July 7th via Mashed Potato Records and Perpetual Doom. The release is described as “an album about big things and little things – – grief, heartbreak, new love, sex, making coffee, walking dogs, and getting through your day, one task at a time.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
