suliian – “older”

//

Understated guitars and glimmering synth effects enamor on “older,” another success from Swiss artist suliian, who first caught our ears in March with the album to gentle giant.

The effort is described as “a quiet and somber song about nostalgia, getting older and feeling left out.” The resonating culmination — “I’m scared that you’re getting older, and I’m getting colder, is there anyone left for me?” — sends chills as percussive elements intensify and the lo-fi electro-folk styling reaches its climax. The escalation from whispered vocals into this impassioned glimpse is wholy stirring, putting a cap on this memorable bedroom-pop gem.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
