Swooner – “Please Let Me Explain”

/

A standout debut single from Swooner, “Please Let Me Explain” hearkens to the warming, patient rock textures of ’90s acts like Slowdive, Spiritualized, and Ride. The Chicago-based collaboration comprises pop artist Port Streets and house producer J Ben, whose mutual love for “90s electronic and indie music” brought this exciting project to life. The first of two EPs from Swooner will release this summer.

“Please try to forgive, try to forget,” the vocals plead with an empathetic tone during the caressing chorus. An impassioned arsenal of guitars unveil in the final minute, conjuring a heady shoegaze-friendly glow that traverses back into jangly, moody guitars with seamless immersivity. This debut single certainly wears its shoegaze influences proudly. Other tracks on the forthcoming EP pursue related realms of nostalgia, particularly “C86 indie, post punk and Madchester.” We’re certainly excited for it.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
