Bad Ass Beauty – “Typecast”

Another thrilling, impassioned rocker from Bad Ass Beauty, “Typecast” finds the Los Angeles-based artist continuing her stream of raucous rock success — catching our ears in prior months with tracks like “Broken” and “Blast Off.”

The project of LaQuinta Prince, Bad Ass Beauty cites influences that range from Led Zeppelin to Chaka Khan — sharing a knack for charismatic, riveting rock exultations. “Usually I’m a master of playing it cool,” the suave vocals begin, quickly complemented by stutter-y guitar/drum interplay that echoes a hair-metal infectiousness. “I’m not yours either,” the lead vocals let out amidst soulful backing responses.

An exhilarating guitar solo adds more fervency past the three-minute turn, driving into another “not yours either,” sequence with memorable backing vocal effects and muscle-y guitar vigor. It’s evident early on that “Typecast” continues Prince’s talent for hard-rocking charisma, evidenced on several singles already this year in anticipation of an upcoming album.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
