Bromsen – “Read About It”

/

Berlin-based duo Bromsen merge jangly guitar lushness with a synthwave-minded soundscape on new single “Read About It.” The track’s inspiration arises from artists whose personal struggles led to an early passing, though leaving behind a legacy of amazing music and art.

Spacey synth atmospherics drive a compelling beginning. “Yes, you really got it,” the vocals sing reassuringly amidst buzzing synth tones and an airy textural backing. The “play the fool,” sequence features more ardent vocals alongside an uptick in the synths’ tonal ferocity. Twangy, understated guitars linger beneath this synth-fronted aesthetical appeal.

“Hear me now,” the vocals soar past the mid-point, into the piano-laden “won’t you read about it?” questioning. The perspectives on artistic struggle — and questioning “when you really got it,” in regard to creativity and peer adoration — firmly resonates alongside the melodic, atmospheric production.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
