GNASHERS – “Fortress”

/

Glasgow-based quartet GNASHERS present an exciting rock sound, reputed for tour-de-force live performances as well as invigorating studio creations, like the recent single “Fortress,” which represents the lead single from the band’s upcoming debut album, releasing on September 1st via Fighting Swans Records.

“Fortress” kicks off with a climactic, snarling vocal lead that evolves into a more caressingly melodic hook; the vocals here present a lusher tonal disposition amidst steady waves of guitars. The verses, meanwhile, tempt with an angsty howl — asking to “show me now,” into the “fortress coming down,” hook.

“Fortress” proves consistently riveting in its contrast between moody verses and the melodically gripping chorus, both succeeding, alongside the peppy bridge rounding the two-minute turn.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
