International Furlough – “Haven”

/

Intertwining a debonair vocal composure with heavy rock guitar charisma, “Haven” is the latest single from International Furlough. The Denver-based solo project of Ian Luddy first caught our ears in June with the hard-rocking single “Down on the Pharm.”

Featuring the work of Ryan Elwood on drums, “Haven” is kickstarted by electrifying guitar-forward escalation. Elwood’s thunderous percussive additions add further vigor to Luddy’s rock sound and stream-of-conscious lyrical feeling. The nonchalant vocal delivery plays with understated appeal, in turn highlighting the heavy guitar pulses and rhythmic underlying. Stutter-y guitar effects lend an escalating flair past the two-minute turn; the crunchy infectiousness enthralls here. “Haven” is another hard-rocking success from International Furlough.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.
