Strange Rainn – “Detained Bliss”

///

“Detained Bliss” proves striking in its balancing of dream-pop lushness with dark alt-rock ruminations. The success comes from Strange Rainn, an artist based in Dresden, Germany, whose new album Face Arms Speech Time released last month. Its production showcases a stirring sound, consuming with its grimy guitar pulses and wintry synth interweaving.

“Detained Bliss” is among the album’s many highlights. Brooding guitar distortion concocts a menacing intrigue to start, falling into subdued, jangly introspection alongside dreamy vocals. The gripping distortion re-emerges past the 30-second turn, mesmerizing with haunting effect as the vocals lament “I feel unprotected,” into a gorgeously dark synth-touched underlying. The convergence of passionate vocal rises, eerie synth backgrounds, and thumping guitar distortion makes for a stylish, riveting sound throughout “Detained Bliss.”
