Neighbour – “Find Me An Apartment”

/

Wholly relatable in its portrayal of encountering a new space/place, “Find Me An Apartment” is a melodic track from Neighbour, a project originally from Brisbane, Australia and now based in Berlin, Germany. Fronted by Ryan Nebauer, Neighbour achieves a bursting, hooky appeal in its fusing of understated pop and twangy rock theatrics.

Marking the second single from Neighbour’s new EP, “Find Me An Apartment” laments about “designer homes that don’t exist,” — and the sparsity of attainable living in general — amidst lush guitars and ascending rows. The ensuing “I’m in need of a key to this town,” hook immerses with reflective guitars, escalating with hooky vigor alongside twangy guitars upon its return around the two-minute mark. The delightful songwriting and rising structure make for a commanding success.

On the track’s inspiration, the artist explains: “Finding a place to rent in Berlin is really hard! Moving here, that was the biggest thing that shocked me and it consumed my thoughts for a few months. Spoiler alert, I finally got a permanent apartment this month!”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2023’ Spotify playlist.
