Richard Tyler Epperson – “Another Day (Unplugged)”

/

A heartrending track out today from Salt Lake City-based artist Richard Tyler Epperson, “Another Day (Unplugged)” journeys from mellow folk-forward introspection to a stirring rock-pop conclusion. Themes of resilience permeate throughout, as lyrics emphasize the vitalness of persisting through burdensome feelings of regret and depression. “Another day I’ve wasted here, another night for me to fear,” the vocals let out amidst fluttering acoustics and glistening piano, poignantly emphasizing a state of despair.

A more triumphant-sounding piano stirring and active percussion leads a brighter conclusion. “The song ends with how you got fake/fight through these types of days for a chance at another day, in hopes it will be better,” Epperson explains. The depictions of battling negative thoughts is especially relevant in times like today, full of tumult. This is a standout, emotive success from Epperson, who first caught our ears back in 2014 with the album Hourglass.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.
