Young Neighbours – “Forever”

/

Ahead of their upcoming album Forever a Slow Rebellion, out on January 2nd, Calgary-based rockers Young Neighbours unveil the release’s first single. “Forever” touts a gloomy rock enthrallment, meshing nostalgic post-punk rhythms and ardent vocal punches into hypnotic hooks, like the concluding “this will be our love in the dark,” declaration.

The track’s production enamors throughout, launching off right away with jumpy guitars and an ensuing distortion-friendly bounciness. “Don’t try to evade, you can look it in the eyes, you can look it in the face,” the vocals begin, lending ample mystique before their tonal heightening. Later pursuits into darker post-punk hints further the track’s atmospheric strengths, balancing darker introspection with rock-ready immediacy.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
