Toronto-based band Cigar Club strut a bluesy rock mystique on new single “Ocean Potion,” released alongside the track “Dark Market.”
The mellower of the two, “Ocean Potion” nonetheless drives into a rousing distortion-laden turn in the second half, traversing seamlessly from its initially understated engrossment. A rainy-day contemplation takes hold initially, as vocals lament “being so far gone,” within a central theme of retrospectively looking back on one’s life, ruminating on roads travelled and not pursued. The band, which formed in 2016, continue to impress with a riveting, dynamic rock sound here, impressing in both its invigorating “walking by the ocean,” outpouring and mellower initial focus.
