Michael the Painter – “The Egg Song”

NYC-based artist Michael Rose fronts the songwriting project Michael the Painter, whose debut single “The Egg Song” presents a gripping piano-driven intimacy. The painter, composer, and curator crafts a sound that bolsters exploration of “the melancholic surrealism of everyday life through expanding time signatures.”

“Time moves slowly,” the vocals let out as powerful piano trickles swell, followed by the “went out for breakfast,” more graceful quaintness; the early-morning contemplative expressions are spine-tingling, particularly as the classical-friendly piano glistening takes hold alongside the steady vocal enamoring. “The Egg Song” is a gorgeously escalating success from Rose, whose stunning paintings can also be found on Instagram, following several NYC exhibitions (most recently at The Untitled Space).

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2023’ Spotify playlist.
