Head Sound – “Like a Painting”

/

“Like a Painting” represents the first single from Head Sound‘s forthcoming debut album. Based out of upstate New York, the band draw from influences reputed for dreamy, hypnotic soundscapes in the rock realms — namely: MBV, Slowdive, Sigur Ros, and Radiohead. Spacey synth tones drive into an impassioned guitar presence, ringing with triumphant qualities into a serene vocal entrancement. The placid rhythmic hypnotic and textured guitar undercurrents combine with the lush vocals for a shoegaze-friendly allure.

Just past the first minute, a combination of wordless vocal caressing and bursting guitar make for a replay-inducing hook; the contrast between this exhilaration and the ensuing dreamy contemplation showcases Head Sound’s commendable tonal versatility, reminiscent of Spiritualized. Calming acoustics and laid-back vocals compel around the mid-point, traversing into another delectable hook. “Like a Painting” is a thorough success from Head Sound, meshing dream-pop and shoegaze with lingering appeal.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
