Vasilikí – “Cheri Cheri Lady”

A re-envisioning of the 1982 track from Modern Talking, “Cheri Cheri Lady” dazzles in its nocturnal, suave pop take — courtesy of Vasilikí. The artist, who was born in Greece and moved to NYC when they were 19, melds a debonair vocal lead within a sturdy synth-forward sound; the emphasis on the title-touting refrain proves consistently hypnotic, and lovably punctuated by a soaring guitar addition in the final minute. Whether you’re a fan of the original, or just discovering it, Vasilikí’s “Cheri Cheri Lady” engages in its atmospheric and dreamy pop appeal.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
