MP3: The Amazing – “Gentle Stream”

Swedish rockers The Amazing are favorable reminders of Jethro Tull, CSNY, and other prog-rock groups originating in the late ’60s that balanced jam band aesthetics with swirling psychedelia and blues infusions. The Amazing’s title track for their new album sounds like a blast from the past. Its intricacies are warm and vibrant, brimming with trickling guitar progressions and delicate organ chords that playfully interweave with Christoffer Gunrup’s soaring vocals. His voice is understated and sung in a near-whisper, yet with a grandiose projection that helps balance intensity with serene bliss.

Gunrup’s vocals are sedate the first few minutes, but as different vocal tracks converge it evolve into a harmonious organ-reflected choir. It’s a stunning moment on a beautiful track, the vocal production reminiscent of Tame Impala and Spiritualized. Speaking of the former, The Amazing are touring with Tame Impala this fall, for what should be a bunch of phenomenal shows. Check out the dates below. Gentle Stream is out October 23rd on October 23rd, after seeing a limited release last October. Check out another track from the album, “Gone”, below:
