Jake Winstrom – “Lightning Rod”

/

“Lightning Rod” is a haunting string-laden piece of folk/Americana from Jake Winstrom, who impressed with the track “Scared Away the Song” in May. From the same release, “Lightning Rod” wows with a more barebones accompaniment initially, with Winstrom’s twangy vocals and warm acoustics leading the way. The strings gradually emerge, providing a perfect emotional complement to Winstrom’s gripping lyrics and vocal tone — especially as he sings the lines “All the while is that a grimace or a smile? / No one can tell / A hundred miles / Now we’re waiting single file to wish you well.”

“Lightning Rod” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2018’ Spotify playlist.
