Forest Ray – “Shadows”

/

The superbly melodic “Shadows” represents the second single from Black Pine, the upcoming album from Seattle-based band Forest Ray. Twangy steel guitar and suave vocals complement lyrics evoking a mysterious allure. “All in all to find out, when it goes dark / I just wanna follow now, from home, hell and half,” the vocals ascend during the chorus, as the twangy guitars assume greater vibrancy alongside twinkling keys. The release’s music video adds nicely to the overall vibe, taking place in North Seattle on the fields of a repurposed naval base, in addition to a part of Seattle presently being overtaken by high-rises. Feelings of vanishing, quickly into the night, are firmly captured both audibly and visually. “Shadows” is a hooky success.

“Shadows” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
