Max Mason – “Hold On (You’re Not Insane)”

///

A psych-forward spectacle, “Hold On (You’re Not Insane)” is a fantastic track from Max Mason. The London-based artist unleashes a fury of consuming melodic twists and turns, touching on a myriad of aesthetic nostalgia — from Pink Floyd’s psychedelic soundscapes to Sparks’ artful, punchy creativity. 01:40 in particular impresses with stabbing organs that, alongside a gyrating vocal, leads wonderfully into a spacey solo. “Jumping off the roof, slipping down the stairwell,” the vocals then appear with, before proclaiming the track’s title with Sparks-esque hooky enjoyment. “Hold On (You’re Not Insane)” exudes a timeless sort of enjoyment in balancing psych and prog-rock with psych-pop immediacy, while also handling daring yet successful structural twists.

“Hold On (You’re Not Insane)” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
