Stillehavet – “Gaia”

/

The gorgeous “Gaia” is a dream-pop success from Stillehavet. The Norwegian act first caught my attention in 2016 with the atmospheric track “Gola Malimbe.” “Gaia” comes from the band’s upcoming album, Kama Muta, out on 11/11. The release shows an expanded sound for the project, now embracing more electronic elements within a dream-pop allure. “Gaia” shows as such with its bristling, synth-laden arps in the undercurrent, even as the heavy bass and sweeping vocals concoct a pure dream-pop sensation. The soaring hook at 01:26 features multi-layered vocals amidst this aforementioned arp and bass-heavy interplay. The effect is thoroughly hypnotic, bolstered even further when ghostly backing vocals add alongside murky percussion, as the three-minute mark passes. Stillehavet’s “Gaia” is beautiful in every sense.

The project is based in Bjørnafjorden, Norway.

“Gaia” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2020’ Soundcloud playlist.
