The Youth Play – “The Years”

/

“The Years” is an escalating rocker from The Youth Play, a four-piece based in West London. Steady, jangly guitars and laid-back vocals engage amidst the expanded guitar layering approaching the one-minute mark, the uptick in distortion thereafter exuding an anthemic character into the bass-heavy verses. The lush vocal backing and climactic guitar pulses here invigorate, reminding of a cross between Smith Westerns and The Pixies.

The project was initially that of a solo effort, formed in 2018 by frontman Diego Bracho in Barcelona. He moved to West London in 2020, and recruited the rest of the band in early 2021. “The Years” represents the lineup’s first single, with an EP aiming to release in mid-2022.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2022’ Spotify playlist.
