Paper Lady – “Winter Comes”

//

Catching our ears in April with the beautiful track “EVE,” Allston, MA-based project Paper Lady struts dreamy rock engrossment throughout another stellar single, “Winter Comes.”

A gradual escalation from understated guitar jangles into a fervent, moving collection of lingering, textured guitars makes for continuous entrancement throughout. Alli Raina’s vocals caress amidst twangy layers of guitar-laden gorgeousness, reminding fondly of Big Thief. A particularly soaring dream-pop sequence, past the 01:30 mark, engrosses with its wordless vocal haunts and shimmering guitar trickles. “Winter Comes” is another decisive success from “Winter Comes.”

Per the band: “‘Winter Comes’ is about the coming of hard times. It is an anthem for preparing to be alone. Sonically, it is a swirling mass of magical energy and hope for independence.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
