Exceling with its dynamic rock sound, “Nod and Applause” is a new single from JJ Byars, a California native who has become prominent in the New York City scene. Bustling rhythms and swift guitars complement a ghostly vocal presence in the initial verses, conjuring Radiohead comparisons.
The climactic bustle of the verses builds brilliantly to the expansive chorus. “With every inch of my being,” Byars repeats amidst invigorating brass additions. “With every inch I resist the urge to crawl out of my skin.” A murkier yet gorgeous finale caps off this gem in satisfying form.
