Ian Reynold – “Nesting” + “Wanting”

/

San Francisco-based artist Ian Reynold crafts a haunting, weary-sounding aesthetic on the consuming “Nesting,” the first song on a three-song EP that Reynold recorded with Dougie Stu in Los Angeles.

The opening “maybe it’s finally time,” line gives the feeling of a confessional amidst the quaint guitar pulses and sporadic key twinkles. “It’s brighter with you,” the vocals let out further, with reflective vocal harmonies adding further depth into the vintage-sounding haunts of the chorus. The glimmering backing keys add beautifully here to Reynold’s solemn vocal tone and backing layers. “Nesting” is a lovely showing of songwriting and production from Ian Reynold.

“Wanting” is another recent success from Reynold. The second of the EP trio, “Wanting” meshes understated vocal entrancement with hazy guitars for a beautifully morose sound. The irresistible croon, shimmering backing, and nostalgic guitar tones mesh for another success from Reynold, whose forthcoming EP sounds like a surefire success so far.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2023’ Spotify playlist.
