Gianfranco Pescetti – “The Wake”

/

Originally from the Tuscan island of Capraia, Gianfranco Pescetti crafts music with ample mood and emotion. Such is evident on the moving single “The Wake,” whose colorful electronic arsenal provides a lushly spacious appeal. An icy, yet hopeful, tonal presentation engrosses with satiating structural additions.

The track’s themes represent life’s range of sadness and triumphs, capturing “the theme of melancholy for a time past, death, and new beginnings, particularly in the context of the Covid pandemic,” Pescetti explains. “The title has a dual meaning, referring to both the practice of mourning and the path left behind by a boat, a symbol of movement and progress.”

A sonar-like trickling opens alongside a spacious synth pad and glimpses of strings. Reverbed percussion and a lonesome-sounding synth lead kick in thereafter, with a reflective textural pull enhanced with an orchestral-like resonance. An expressive character emerges as the second minute approaches, with hazy synths and weeping strings sounding fit for a space opera. “The Wake” is a standout atmospheric success from Gianfranco Pescetti.
