Enthralling with atmospheric mystique, “The Glass Fountain” is a striking single from London-based artist Rubik, featuring folk singer/songwriter Sharron Kraus on the recorder. The track was worked on over a period of five months, excelling with a sound that incorporates aspects of house, electronica, and early dubstep. The unexpected collaboration stirs with a cohesive yet eclectic production, emphasizing atmosphere in addition to soundscape.

Ethereal keys and woodwind flourishes entrance from the get-go, with the presented atmosphere reminding of the late Susumu Yokota. A late-night futuristic presentation emerges as the pulsating synths and rumbling bass appear, coalescing seamlessly with sporadic doses of the airy keys. An eerie whistling plays with satiating effect. Twinkling keys layer beautifully in the final minute, wrapping up this standout soundscape with lingering appeal.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
