hummer – “edge of the earth”

/

Fresh off the debut single “Hollow Eyes 0_0,” Los Angeles-based act hummer concocts further rock-driven mystique with the track “edge of the earth.”

Thick bass reverberations accompany an effect that resembles a rapidly descending aircraft. Twangy guitar fixtures emerge with a crispness thereafter, as moody vocals and a bass-y reflection continue the momentum and mystique. Whirring guitar distortion invigorates past the two-minute mark; the track’s dark alt-rock sound balances textured ’90s nostalgia with a murky modern punch.

The artist behind the project, Aaron Bernards, elaborates on the track: “It’s about a weird dream falling through the sky. Falling through space and time, the feeling that someone has fallen out of love with you. Disorienting, and uncomfortable, but all you can do is experience the situation and accept it. And then hopefully grow from it.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2023’ Spotify playlist.
