A lush charmer from Maida Rose, “Phoenix” comes via the Netherlands-based duo’s upcoming EP, Philia, a release that celebrates the 10th anniversary of the two songwriters’ friendship. They note the track’s inspiration as deriving from the poetry of Persian poet Rumi; the effort explores “the challenges of taking responsibility for your own life and rising up after an emotionally challenging period.”
“Phoenix” continues the project’s dream-pop allure, apparent on previously featured successes like “Within” and “Fallen.” The initial verses capture “treading a tightrope that never seems to end,” expanding thereafter into a gorgeously chilling expanse of fierce vocal emotion and tender guitar twangs. “Phoenix” is a captivating return for Maida Rose, representing their first release since 2022 debut album Tales Of Adolescence.
