Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps – “Fire and Ice”

/

Childhood imagination is increasingly difficult to capture as one grows in age, with each day moving further from the whimsy and spontaneity of childhood play. “Fire and Ice” retains that youthful spirit with its frolicking guitars and lyrical reminiscing, capturing “a story of brothers playing pirates in their bunkbed, sailing their ship towards an imaginary island with countless treasures to discover.”

The track serves as another success from Helsinki-based project Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps, impressing previously with tracks like “Better Man” and “Something New.” The melodic, soaring “Fire and Ice” centers around the spirited chorus, featuring regaling of how “we fought fire and ice, a crew of just my kid brother and me.” There’s a bit of a sea shanty-feeling in the “whoa-oh,” backing vocal responses and excitable instrumentation. The melodic “Fire and Ice” captures the spirit and vitalness of childhood imagination.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2023’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
