Jack the Owl – “Club Bored”

//

Netherlands-based project Jack the Owl conjures a spellbinding rock appeal on “Club Bored,” exuding a dreamy psych-friendly punch in its dazed vocal immersion, spacey synth touches, and haunting guitar tones. The project of producer and mix engineer Kasper Spijkerman impresses with a stylish, melodic production throughout.

Mystique-filled guitar lines and a psychedelic reflective buzzing meld with intrigue, into a confident vocal presence that asks “have you looked outside?” into a ghostly wordless composure. Hazy synth trickles emerge here will illuminated charm, into a more rock-forward sequence as lyrics admit always wanting more. The “turning to memories,” sequence compels further with its greater ferocity, as a serene synth-laden accompaniment hits at the mid-point.

“Club Bored” is a stirringly successful showing, elevating particularly in the closing minute, when the spacey synth and heavy guitar pulses intertwine with cohesively melodic satiation.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.
