dethcaps – “Candied Peaches”

/

Bay Area-based band dethcaps deliver a mix of lush heartache and shoegaze-y distortion on the impressive new single “Candied Peaches.” They note that the effort is “about a lost love, heartbreak, and the whirlwind of emotions that follow,” — with the primary inspirations being “The xx’s vocal delivery and Tame Impala’s guitar drone.”

Serene guitar pulses and prancing twangs complement a steady vocal unveiling, remarking “doesn’t take much faith to grab another stranger’s hand.” The “candy peaches, you’re my weakness,” refrain guides into a shoegaze-friendly wall of guitar distortion alongside spoken-word vocal mystique; this section excels with intrigue into a palpable “memories keep me warm at night,” yearning as the textured guitars persists.

A new vocal delivery in the second half enamors, venturing seamlessly into bursting guitar lines alongside the warming distortion, with a final “you’re my weakness,” segment falling into mellow keys for a satiating conclusion. dethcaps’ “Candied Peaches” captivates from start to finish.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2023’ Spotify playlist.
