Just Super – “When?”

/

Venturing from ghostly folk intrigue into a sharp lounge-friendly pop assortment, “When?” is a memorable new single from Just Super. The artist was featured in the past under the name GEO, infusing R&B and hip-hop on tracks like “Flax Pond.” Just Super represents the newer alter-ego of Geo Botelho, successfully pursuing a genre he describes as “emo jazz” — infusing pop, R&B, jazz, and emo.

The ushering-in of smooth vocals and light piano beautifully complements the meandering acoustics. The stutter-y vocal effect adds further momentum, culminating in a tighter R&B/pop production as the acoustics fade in prominence. The production and atmosphere is consuming to the point of a second-half Lexapro ad infusion not detracting at all. The “do just fine,” multi-vocal swell echoes that emo sentiment, enjoyably; “When?” is a dynamic, melodic showcase from Just Super.

The track represents the final single from the new album Not Much, but All I Think About, streaming below:

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
