Judy Pearson – ‘Diary Of A Heartbreak (Chapter Two)’

London singer-songwriter Judy Pearson‘s Diary Of A Heartbreak (Chapter Two) EP pairs piano-led pop melodies and delicate acoustic arrangements with candid, sharply observed songwriting. The four-track follow-up to her first musical diary installment shifts perspective from the immediate pain of heartbreak toward newfound confidence and self-worth, with Pearson describing the songs as “letters I’ll never send.”

Kicking off the EP, “Just A Boy” charms in its lush piano-driven melody amidst Pearson’s introspective lyricism. “You move to the next one, like it’s a stroll,” she sings. “You go from left to right, from one girl to the next, and with nothing to show.” The depictions of a “player”/”macho guy” stirs amidst the beckoning to “stop and think twice,” musing on how one can live with themselves with a myriad of broken hearts “on their wall.” The string-touched piano-pop balladry delights here. “No One Else Like Me” follows with a more twinkling piano presence, as Pearson asks “do you think about me, when you’re all alone?” amidst a series of vulnerabilities and post-relationship contemplations.

Another highlight, “Isn’t It Funny” finds a lovely balance of calming acoustic guitar and prancing piano, cathartic in its “this is closure” vocal proclamation and climactic clap-laden rhythms. Strings complement the “gather the courage” accounts of a brighter dawn ahead following personal triumph, in the wake of tumult. Closing the EP, another powerful track in “Jade” furthers the sense of loss though ensuing recovery, as one witnesses from afar an ex finding new love. Hooky songwriting and heart-on-sleeve lyrical introspections combine with an amiable vocal presence throughout Diary Of A Heartbreak (Chapter Two), a resonant EP from Judy Pearson.
