Bryan Dubay – “Driving North”

/

“Driving North” is the debut single from singer/songwriter Bryan Dubay. Dubay, who has been playing music for over two decades, succeeds with an authentic-sounding track in “Driving North” that sits within a familiar singer/songwriter aesthetic, while providing some endearingly creative decisions. Aesthetically, I’m reminded of the quainter work of Matthew Good, especially in terms of the vocals’ tone and delivery.

“It’s about running with pride from a toxic relationship, albeit dramatically,” Dubay says of the track. A contemplative vocal tone kicks things off, with the 30-second mark starting a series of consuming melodic choices that are hauntingly melodic. The production features backing elements that tout a beautiful pedal steel allure, which meshes beautifully with Dubay’s vocals. I’m looking forward to hearing more from this emerging artist.

“Driving North” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2019’ Spotify playlist.
